DIY // New Chair Cushion
Ever since I brought this chair home, which I got for free after working in an art gallery, I knew I wanted to changed the fabric of the cushion to something a bit more modern so it would fit in better in my room. Fast forward nearly six years and I've only just got round to doing it. I think I took so long to pick a fabric and get started on it as back then I wasn't really sure how I wanted my room to look. I also wasn't happy with the furniture I used to own but now I've pretty much replaced it all I have a better idea of how I want my bedroom to look.
Despite it being a dining chair as it was from a set of six, it's been my dressing table chair as well as my desk chair over the years. It's also been dragged out into the dining room when we have a lot of guests round and need extra seating. Since changing my dressing table, buying a stool for it and being happy with how it looks, it felt the right time to change the fabric and have it solely as my desk chair.
The fabric I pictured in my head was completely different to the one I chose. I imagined having a very light pink or baby blue fabric similar to one I'd seen in Laura Ashley. Having a very pale nearly white fabric wouldn't have worked in the end though as you'd be able to see the red stripes of the old fabric through it since I wasn't taking it off.
While walking around the fabric shop I fell in love with this grey checked fabric which was incredibly expensive considering I only really wanted to pay something like £7 for the fabric. I tried to find something else I liked but everything was either too thin or just not what I was looking for. In the end I payed for the fabric and have on purpose forgotten the price as I really don't want to think about it!
A lot of tugging, folding and staples later my mum and I had covered the cushion and I couldn't be happier with it. I liked the chair before but now I really love it and it goes perfectly with my room. Such a simple thing has changed how this chair looks completely! The dark wood goes so well with the grey which I'm really pleased about.
You did pick a lovely fabric though! <3
